I would say there are no fundamental differences relating to the working capability between Akbash dogs and Kangal dogs. The picture below shows a flock in Turkey with Akbash dogs in the foreground and a Kangal dog in the background. The brown dog is a LGD from Turkmenia.



All of them working together as a team on the same flock.



In the USA there are many Akbash type dogs on the flocks. But often fenced with the sheep.
The officials of the Livestock Guarding programm in Germany doesn't recommend the Asian LGDs for their flocks, but the well known Maremmano and Patou.
They say, these dogs are a little bit too aggressive towards tourists and their dogs.
But the situation in Germany is different than in the Pirin mountains. It's not possible to work with LGDs without fences or shepherds.
